We are delighted to have Dr. Peter Masiakos as our 2026 JPS/Fred Macleod lecturer!
Dr. Peter T. Masiakos, is the Director of Pediatric Trauma Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and a Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Masiakos is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in pediatric trauma care, injury prevention, and health policy. Over the past two decades, he has combined clinical excellence with a deep commitment to addressing the social and structural determinants of childhood injury.
Dr. Masiakos has built a remarkable career at the intersection of surgery, public health, and advocacy. He founded the Massachusetts General Hospital Trauma and Injury Prevention Program and later co-founded and now co-directs the MGH Center for Gun Violence Prevention, one of the nation’s leading academic programs addressing firearm injury as a public health crisis. His advocacy has directly informed legislation—Dr. Masiakos has helped to draft, testify for, and champion more than eleven Massachusetts injury prevention laws, including two landmark gun safety measures that have served as national models.
Through his scholarship, mentorship, and tireless advocacy, Dr. Masiakos has demonstrated how surgeons can extend their impact far beyond the operating room, improving not only the lives of individual patients but also the safety and well-being of communities nationwide.
